High Speed Train Project Terms to be Made within Days

In a statement to al-Ahram, Minister of Transport Dr. Mohamed Rashad al Mateeny disclosed the government‘s first practical step to implement the project of high speed train between Cairo and Alexandria within days, where terms and conditions will be made public in presence of local and global engineering companies to agree on costs and technology to meet the need of that service.

The minister pointed out that the first phase of the project will link between Alexandria and Sixth of October City, adding that this project will not only be for offering services to the tourist industry but it will also focus on meeting the needs of the commuters in Egypt which are on the rise day by day especially in Upper Egypt.

He also pointed to another service which that project will provide, mainly to capitalize on the new project in transporting goods especially among production centers including Alexandria, Burg al Arab, Sixth of October and other urban and industrial communities which are to be set up in the country’s north eastern areas. According to the minister, the technical and engineering procedures will be finalized within six months after which the government will set the stage for the project to take effect.
