The UAE is hosting a prosperous British business community which is contributing significantly to economic development in various sectors, Secretary General of Dubai Economic Council (DEC) Hani Al Hamli said.
At a meeting today with British Consul in Dubai Mr. Edward Hobart, Al Hamli praised the ever-growing Emirati-British relations in economy, trade or direct investment as well as in tourism and financial services. The meeting explored ways of enhancing these relations and reviewed the latest developments in the economy of UAE in general and Dubai in particular. Major British companies the likes of British Petroleum and Shell maintain offices in the UAE and Dubai for their operations in the Middle. He added that the DEC had launched several strategic initiatives to make qualitative leaps in the sustainable economic development in the UAE and Dubai and to provide factors for broader economic and trade relations with strategic partners including the UK. Both countries are targeting a 60 per cent increase in trade from 2009 levels, to reach AED 70 billion by 2015. For his part, the British Consul said decision-making centres and business community in Britain admired the staggering developments the UAE economy is experiencing, positioning the country as one of the regional and international leading hub for finance and business. |
