Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry welcomed a high-profile delegation of 30 Slovak ministers and private sector representatives, led by H.E. Miroslav Lajcak, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Republic of Slovakia, at its head office.
The delegation met with Dubai Chamber officials to discuss potential areas of collaboration between Slovakia and the UAE as the meeting provided a platform for the visitors to meet representatives of the local business community. H.E. Abdul Rahman Saif Al Ghurair, Chairman, Dubai Chamber, received the delegation, saying Dubai is an ideal business hub with excellent connections to markets across the Middle East, Africa and Asia. The emirate’s economy is growing and is open to overseas investment thus offering excellent opportunities for Slovak companies to set up base here. Trade is a pillar of Dubai’s economy and an important measure of our international partners as we saw Dubai’s relationship with the Slovak Republic strengthened last year. The total non-oil trade with the country grew by 4%, from a value of AED740 million in 2012 to AED772 million in 2013, said H.E. Al Ghurair. He also informed that the Slovak Republic is Dubai’s 102nd largest trade partner and presently, Dubai Chamber has five Slovak companies among its members. But we hope that this number will increase in line with stronger cooperation in the future, he said. H.E. Al Ghurair added: “We see potential for increased cooperation between Dubai and the Slovak Republic in business, investment, trade and tourism and this visit by the high profile delegation from the country will lead to strengthened bilateral relations in the long run.” On his part, H.E. Lajcak said that Dubai is a strategic and serious partner for his country and this visit by the Slovak ministerial and business delegation will start a new phase in the bilateral relationship of the two countries. The Deputy Prime Minister of Slovakia pointed at important sectors of mutual cooperation in the areas of construction, foodstuff, technology, pharmaceutical products and tourism adding that Slovakia’s geographical location connecting Central and Eastern Europe, political stability, business innovation and friendly-business environment are factors that will help enhance cooperation ties between Dubai and Slovakia. He congratulated Dubai on its winning of Expo 2020 and called upon Dubai Chamber to send its business mission to his country which offers lucrative investment potential to overseas investors. |
