Tejar Dubai, a Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry initiative, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding, MoU, with INJAZ UAE, a member of Junior Achievement Worldwide, JAW, to inspire and prepare students in Dubai for acquiring entrepreneurial skills.

The agreement was signed by Hisham Al Shirawi, head of the panel of experts committee of Tejar Dubai and 2nd Vice Chairman Dubai Chamber, and Sheikh Khaled bin Zayed bin Saqr Al Nahyan, Chairman, INJAZ UAE, during a ceremony held at the Chamber premises on Tuesday.

The main objective of the MoU is to help instil the necessary entrepreneurial skills, and train over 3,000 students in Dubai to develop entrepreneurial thinking, as well as encouraging youth to take up enterprising initiatives and become entrepreneurs in the UAE.

It is also aimed at supporting INJAZ UAE’s hosting of training programmes including entrepreneurship acceleration meetings and events targeting students from Dubai and the Northern Emirates, to filter a maximum of five entrepreneurial projects from top students annually for further incubation and deployment in the Tejar Dubai entrepreneurship development programme to fulfil the demands of the labour market.

During the signing ceremony, Al Shirawi stated that the agreement’s objective is to promote a culture of entrepreneurship in the emirates in line with the directives of Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

It also caters to the shared vision of Tejar Dubai and the INJAZ UAE’s objective of encouraging students to develop entrepreneurial thinking and skills to become successful entrepreneurs in the UAE, he said.

Al Shirawi further stated that the MoU directly supports the UAE’s Emiratisation and job diversification plans through educational activities that give youth first-hand training in entrepreneurship, work-readiness and financial literacy skills at an early age through the support and mentorship of corporate volunteers and entrepreneurs.

The head of the panel of experts committee of Tejar Dubai also said that the Chamber’s entrepreneurship development programme has been supporting young citizens to realise their dreams and aspirations in the business world as investment in young citizens is the best investment to promote sustainable development and prosperity in the country.

On his part, Sheikh Khaled bin Zayed said, "The world-class programmes offered by Injaz-JA Foundation are available to more than 10.6 million students annually around the world. These top ranking programmes are in line with the educational and professional requirements of the 21st century.

"The partnership between INJAZ and Tejar Dubai will have a positive effect on the students as this will provide them with the necessary skills to enter the highly competitive labour market and to launch their own businesses so that they can become active participants in the economic growth of the country." Essa Al Zaabi, Senior Vice-President, Institutional Support Sector, Dubai Chamber, and General Coordinator of Tejar Dubai, said that the Tejar Dubai initiative was launched by Dubai Chamber last year in line with the directives of Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, which emphasises that entrepreneurship is the shortest way to a bright future.

The specialised programme aims to find and train creative and commercially-minded youth to help them turn their business ideas into a reality while helping them to establish their own small-to-medium-sized businesses.

Under its three key pillars of assess, assist and attain, the Tejar Dubai initiative provides youth with access to an extensive development programme, including classroom learning, on-site training, mentoring and business advice, as well as networking opportunities with local and international business leaders and access to investment capital.
