President Abdel Fattah Al Sisi had talks on 10/2/2015 with visiting Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin on ways of boosting cooperation in various fields and expanding coordination regarding regional and international issues of common interest.
Presidential spokesman Alaa Youssef said during the two leaders' talks held at Qoba presidential palace in Cairo, Sisi lauded Russia's stances supportive of Egypt and the will of the Egyptian people after the June 30 revolution. Sisi also underlined that Egypt was looking forward to establish deeply rooted strategic ties with Russia in a way that serves their interests. The Egyptian leader called on the Russian side to increase investments in Egypt in a number of vital fields, including a planned logistics center for crops in the Egyptian Delta city of Damietta and in the sectors of energy and agriculture. The two sides agreed to establish a Russian industrial zone in North Ataqa area near the Suez Canal and also agreed to promote relations in the tourism domain. Sisi tackled the phenomenon of terrorism that posed threats to Egypt and the whole Arab region, stressing the necessity of expanding cooperation between the two countries to fight terrorism and extremism. The Russian President expressed desire to push forward ties with Egypt, pointing out to the activation of joint committee and councils during the last period to upgrade the bilateral relations. Putin tackled the significant economic activities between the two countries, especially in 2014. The Russian President referred to plans to double the trade exchange from 2.5 billion dollars to five billion by the end of 2015. Putin noted the potentials available for both countries to push forward cooperation in several fields especially in the nuclear power for peaceful uses. The Russian leader expressed relief over the increase in the number of the Russian tourists to Egypt to three million in 2014, thanks to the stability in the Arab country. The Russian President noted that the number of the Russian companies working in Egypt reached 400. The two leaders discussed proposals to solve the Syrian crisis. They tackled the Palestinian cause and the situation in Iraq, Libya and Yemen. They signed a memorandum of understanding to establish a plant to generate electricity via the nuclear power as well as two agreements in investment between the two countries. |
