Qatari-South Korean Economic Forum kicked off in Doha, with President of Korea Park Geun-hye attending with representative of 80 Korean companies.
Marking the occasion, the South Korean leader said in a speech that the forum was an important opportunity to exchange ideas on issues of common interest. The South Korean president also highlighted the distinguished bilateral diplomatic ties that started in 1974 and are reflected in the strong bilateral economic cooperation. President Park said the two countries already have strong cooperation in the energy and infra-structure projects. She noted that Korean companies are event present in Qatari projects related to electricity production and sanitation. On Qatar's organization of the World Cup 2022, the South Korean leader stressed her confidence in Qatar's capabilities of producing a tremendous edition of the competition. President Park added that South Korea has a great experience after hosting World Cup 2022, something that can make the Far East country of great help. She also said that South-Korean companies are keen to participate in preparing the services, logistics and infrastructure as Qatar prepares for hosting the World Cup. For his part, the Chairman of Qatar Chamber of Commerce and Industry (QCCI) Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassem Al-Thani praised the contribution of Korean companies in the establishment of many development projects not only in Qatar, but also in other GCC states. The boom in the GCC countries is the result of positive cooperation with partners from many countries of the world, especially from South Korea, Sheikh Khalifa said. The chairman added South Korean companies have become one of the largest trading partners of the GCC countries and have assumed a prominent place among the industrialized countries. Sheikh Khalifa also pointed to the extent of economic similarities between South Korea and Qatar, saying within a few years Qatar was able to achieve comprehensive growth thanks to the wise leadership and the strategic ambitious plans. Sheikh Khalifa underlined Qatari businessmen's willingness to explore investment opportunities in South Korea, pointing out that all the facilities are available for investment there. Sheikh Khalifa expressed desire to attract more South Korean expertise to benefit from their experience, saying that QCCI stands ready to provide all the necessary data and information for the South Korean businessmen regarding the investment climate and investment opportunities in Qatar. The forum, organized by both the Qatari Chamber of Industry and Commerce and its Korean counterpart, will tackle enhancing cooperation between the two countries' private sector. |
