The Emirates Identity Authority, EIDA, has won the United Nations Public Service Award in the category of "Promoting Whole-of-Government Approaches in the Information Age," making the UAE the only country from the Middle East region to win an award in this segment.
The honour was given in recognition of Emirates ID accomplishments in the development of infrastructure conducive to transforming services rendered by public and private sectors into electronic services, particularly the setting up of the National Validation Gateway. The award was conferred at the UN Public Service Forum which was held in Medellin, Republic of Columbia from June 23-26 under the theme "Innovating serving delivery to implement the post-2015 development agenda. The award highlights innovations that help to provide better services to citizens everywhere in the world and improve people’s lives, according to a statement issued by the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA) on the occasion. The delegation of the Emirates ID that took part in the event included Aisha Al Rayesi, Executive Director, Central Operations, Dr. Ahmed Al Jaberi, Director of Corporate Governance and Abdulaziz Al Maamari, Director of Government and Social Communication. The Emirates ID also took part in the exhibition held on the side-lines of the Forum, showcasing the Authority’s many services and accomplishments, such as the Validation Gateway. The Validation Gateway enables governments, banks, organisations as well as individuals to make use of the Emirates ID card in an online scenario. VG offers many fool-proof methods of identity authentication in online services when the smart identity cards issued by Emirates ID are used as the means of ID verification, both physically and digitally. All government bodies in the UAE are now in a position to improve and increase their service offerings to the people with the use of the validation gateway. All they want to know about the customer is just a click away at no extra-cost and effort. |
