H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Foreign Minister, has met with Peter Maurer, president of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), in New York.
The meeting was held on the sidelines of Sheikh Abdullah's participation in the 70th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 70). During the meeting, they discussed ways to develop joint co-operation and humanitarian intervention between both sides in times of crisis around the world. They also tackled ways to enhance co-ordination of the UAE's humanitarian assistance to affected countries and regions, especially in Yemen. Sheikh Abdullah was very keen on reviewing the aid programme provided by the UAE and its specialised national organisations, including Emirates Red Crescent (ERC), to affected areas in a number of countries across the world. The ICRC president hailed the UAE's effective role aimed to provide humanitarian support and the launch of relief convoys to alleviate the suffering of affected people due to disputes and catastrophes. Ambassador Lana Zaki Nusseibeh, Permanent Representative of the UAE to the United Nations, attended the meeting. |
