Firms Enviromena Power Systems (UAE) and TSK (Spain) signed a contract worth USD 128 million with Jordan's government to build a solar power plant in southern Jordan.

Minister Saif said in a statement, following the signing that the project which will be located in the country's southern region of Al-Queira (some 200km south of the capital) will assist in increasing the contributions of renewable energy to power in the Hashemite Kingdom by 100 megawattss. He also revealed that the project forms part of the United Arab Emirates' USD-150-million-share of the Gulf Cooperation Council states grant. Renewable energies, he said, will provide around 1,000 megawatt (20 percent) of the country's power by 2018. |
