The Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED) and Egypt's government signed a grant agreement worth USD 20 million for improving education services and building 30 schools slated for next year.

The deal was inked by KFAED Director General Abdulwahab Al-Bader and Egyptian Minister of International Cooperation Dr. Sahar Nasr.

This came on the sidelines of Nasr's meeting with representatives of Arab funds, the Islamic Bank and representatives from Egypt's Ministry of Defense to discuss Sinai's development project.

Following the signing ceremony, Al-Bader told KUNA that the deal is part of Kuwait's commitment to supporting Syrian refugees living in neighboring countries, adding the commitment worth USD 500 million was announced during the Third International Humanitarian Pledging Conference for Syria held by Kuwait.

"We allocated a grant to neighboring countries hosting Syrian refugees and USD 20 million for Egypt whose schools are full of these refugees," he said. He stressed the importance of this meeting, which discussed how to make Sinai an attractive destination for people.

A similar meeting was held in Kuwait last December and reviewed programs of new development in Sinai, he noted.
