India and the UAE pledged to deepen economic and investment ties, especially in the Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), innovation and oil and gas.
This was revealed when the visiting UAE Minister of Economy Sultan Al-Mansoori and Minister for Energy Suhail Mohammed Al-Mazrouei met their Indian counterparts Arun Jaitley and Dharmendra Pradhan respectively. Al-Mansoori and Al-Mazrouei along with a number of other ministers, government officials and business leaders had arrived in India as part of a delegation on the occasion of the first visit of Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, General Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Al-Nahyan, who was accorded a warm welcome in New Delhi by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Indian Minister of Finance Arun Jaitley said in a statement that both sides have stressed during the meeting the importance of deepening cooperation between the two countries in the fields of investment, innovation especially to boost the SMEs. He said that the National Investment and Infrastructure Fund provide amble investment opportunities and that his government has taken serious measures to promote innovation, especially through the 'Make in India' project. Both the sides also underlined the importance of SMEs as they have the capacity to boost the economy and provide job opportunities. During his meeting with Minister Al-Mazrouei, Minister Pradhan "highlighted that cooperation in the field of hydrocarbon was an important element of our bilateral relationship and noted that nearly eight percent of India's petroleum products were sourced from UAE". |
