The Transport Ministry needs EGP 90 billion to upgrade the railways sector and improve the deteriorating railway services, the Transport Ministry spokesman said.
In statements on Thursday, Ahmed Ibrahim said the ministry seeks to encourage businessmen to engage in a number of transportation projects. The minister apologized to people injured in the Beni Suef train accident for the bad railway service, stressing that the ministry will be responsible for treating all injured. Up to 70 persons were injured in the accident, 49 of whom were discharged from hospital after receiving medical care. The Cairo-Aswan train overturned earlier Thursday in Beni Suef when the train's locomotive hit a cement block causing the train to veer off the railways. Police arrested the train driver as he did not abide by instructions of the control tower and the train was about to collide with the Assiut train. |
