Developing the Suez Canal is an Egyptian dream that aims at optimizing on the outstanding geographic location of the waterway by providing value added services, said head of the General Authority of Suez Canal Economic Zone Ahmed Darwish.
Darwish, addressing the tenth meeting of the Egyptian-Japanese business council in Tokyo, said the authority, which is totally independent from the government, seeks to provide all facilities to lure investments to the Suez Canal area. A well-designed infrastructure, highly-qualified workers and necessary legislation give the authority the right to take swift decisions to make the best use of the Suez Canal area, he added. The Sues Canal zone, built over 461 square kilometer area, has six ports and three tunnels linking it to Sinai. All details concerning the design of the region were finalized, he said. "Negotiations with the Japanese side to start any business take time but when we start working with them, it became fun because they are accurate," he said. He promised to provide investors with all they need, urging Japanese businessmen to pump their money into infrastructure projects in Egypt. The infrastructure is already finalized in Ain Shokhna industrial zone and so any investor can start there right-away, he said. |
