Presidential Assistant for national and strategic projects Ibrahim Mahlab confirmed the need for a precise strategy for recycling solid waste through integration between the government, business sector and civil society.
Addressing a conference held at the Egyptian Center for Economic Studies on the problem of solid waste and its economic benefit, Mahlab said the problem is escalating and there are many studies since 1980s, but they were not put into effect. Recycling waste can bring about a huge wealth, he said, noting that construction waste can be recycled and used in roads building. Mahlab said many countries made use of waste to reach development. He stressed that there should be a precise strategy with a timetable for waste recycling. He said there should be a competition among the governorates in the proficiency of managing the waste recycling file. Board Chairman of the Egyptian Center for Economic Studies Amr Mahna said the conference aims at discussing the suitable strategy for managing solid waste in Egypt in view of the government's efforts to establish the 1.5 million feddan project. |
