Efforts are underway to form an Egyptian-Bosnian working group to study signing a preferential trade agreement between the two countries, said Trade and Industry Minister Tarek Qabil.

Under the agreement, preferential privileges will be given to several products, especially the exchanged ones between the two countries, added the minister during a session of talks held with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina Mirko Sarovic.

Egypt is keen on promoting its economic and trade ties with Bosnia and Herzegovina, said the minister, underlining the importance of further promoting economic and trade ties between the two countries.

The volume of trade exchange between the two countries reached only 38.2 million dollars during 2014, he added.

The meeting took up ways of boosting trade and investment ties between the two countries within the upcoming phase, the Trade and Industry Ministry said in a statement.

The meeting also tackled ways of establishing an Egyptian-Bosnian business council in order to draw up new ideas and viewpoints to establish partnerships between the private sector in the two countries.

Qabil, meanwhile, pointed out to the ongoing efforts by the government, adding that an economic reform plan is being implemented with the aim of increasing exports and providing jobs.

The Bosnian official, for his part, affirmed his country's keenness on promoting its trade ties with Egypt.

He further said that his current visit to Egypt is considered the first of its kind, after more than five years of a last visit by a Bosnian official.

He also said that his country is about to join the European Union, a matter which will give new competitive advantages for the Bosnian market.

He extended an invitation to Qabil and a host of Egyptian businessmen to visit Bosnia in order to explore the available investment opportunities there.
