Sweden Trade Council (STC) is due to establish an office in Iran to help further develop economic relations between the two countries, Iranian officials announced.

Head of Iran's Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mine and Agriculture Mohsen Jalalpour said that five Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) were signed between Iran and Sweden Trade Council during the recent visit by Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and a 60-strong delegation accompanying him, adding that that STC intends to open a bureau in Tehran.

He made the remarks after a meeting with Head of STC Ilva Berry and the Council's Deputy Head for Middle-East Affairs Sharif Seyed.

Jalalpour said that Iran's Chamber and the Sweden Trade Council are to draw a joint road map for the two countries' businesspersons and traders.

In a relevant development on Wednesday, Zarif and Swedish Minister of Enterprise and Innovation Mikael Damberg in a meeting in Stockholm expressed the hope that trade and economic relations between the two countries would further broaden in post-sanctions era.

"We hope that economic ties between the two countries would return to its previous conditions after the (July) nuclear deal (between Tehran and the world powers which removed sanctions against Iran)," Zarif said during the meeting.

Noting that Iran was Sweden's first trade partner in West Asia and North Africa region in the past, he said renovation of Iran's heavy transportation system, eradication of air pollution, development of new energies and waste management are the arenas in which the two countries can expand cooperation.

Damberg, for his part, welcomed boosting cooperation with Tehran, and expressed the hope that the Iran-Sweden economic forum which is due to be held in Stockholm would pave the ground for more economic cooperation between the Iranian and Swedish governments and companies.

In September 2015, Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Lofven in a meeting with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani in New York announced that Stockholm is interested in developing its industrial and trade ties with Iran.

"We are ready to open a new chapter in our mutual relations with Iran, which is plying an important and influential actor in the region," Lofven said on the sidelines of the 70th UN General Assembly meeting.
