The revenues of Suez Canal in the first quarter of 2016 hit 9.964 billion pounds, Chairman of Suez Canal Authority Mohab Mamish said.
Suez Canal revenues were increased by 592.4 million pounds, compared to 2015 in spite of decrease in the world trade volume, Mamish added. The remarks were made during a news conference in Kuwait on the sidelines of signing a memorandum of understanding between the authority and Kuwait Petroleum Corporation. The number of vessels transited the Suez Canal in the first quarter this year has increased by 2.7 percent to hit 4,178 ships. The revenues of Suez Canal have hit 40 billion pounds in 2015 for the first time in the history of the canal. The transit of vessels has become easier after the inauguration of the new Suez Canal, he said. Investments in the Suez Canal area are available for all countries, mainly the Gulf and Arab countries, he noted. Egypt is working to activate the laws of investment to cope up with their counterparts in foreign and Arab countries, he said. Egypt stands by Arab countries in the face of any threat, he asserted. President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and Kuwaiti Emir Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Sabah exert utmost efforts to maintain peace and security in the Arab region. |
