Prime Minister Sherif Ismail witnessed the signing of a 5.9-billion-pound contract to complete the construction of the fourth phase of the third metro line in Cairo.
Today contract, to be totally funded from the State budget, will prepare for the second part of the fourth stage which stretches from Hisham Barkat to Adly Mansour stations. The new section will serve residents of Misr el Gedida, Gisr el Suez, El-Herafyeen and ’Madinat El Sallam areas. Egypt's National Authority for Tunnels signed the contract with Orascom and Arab Contractors companies. The new section runs for 6.36km starting from Al Nozha station. It will include five stations. The total length of the third line is approximately 30.6 km of which 28.1 km is an underground section and the rest of the line, about 2.5 km, will be on grade and will be implemented in four phases. The third line is expected to transport 2 million passengers per day, bringing to six millions the number of passengers carried by the three lines of the metro. MENA |
