Tourism minister Yehia Rashed dissolved the Federation of Tourism Chambers' board and the boards of all five affiliated tourism chambers, according to ministry statement.
The boards of the Egyptian Travel Agents Association, the Egyptian Hotel Association, the Chamber of Tourism Establishments, the Chamber of Tourism Commodities and Bazaars, and the Chamber of Diving and Watersports were dissolved in the move. The move came after a final court decision ruled that the elections for the Federation of Tourism Chambers' board in February 2015 were void. Transitional acting boards are tasked with holding elections for the Federation and the five chambers. The minister appointed a nine-member transitional board for the Federation of Tourism Chambers that will either act for six months or until new elections are held. Acting five-member boards were also designated for each of the five chambers for either a two-month duration or until new elections are held. The Cabinet reshuffled last Wednesday the board of the Higher Council for Tourism as a step to devise a new strategy to boost the ailing tourism sector. The council will be chaired by President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi. Egypt's tourism sector suffered severely following a ban on passenger flights to Sharm El-Sheikh after a Russian airliner crashed in Sinai last October. |
