Transport Minister Galal el-Saeed and Chairman of the Arab Organization for Industrialization (AOI) Abdel Aziz Seif Eddin attended a ceremony marking the OAI delivery of two air-conditioned railway and metro carriages.
In April 2012, the Egyptian National Railways and SEMAF factory signed a contract to manufacture and supply 212 air-conditioned 1st class and VIP carriages at a total cost of 2.1 billion pounds. So far, the total number of new carriages received by the authority is 161. In December 2013, Egypt and South Korea's Hyundai Rotem Company signed a contract to supply 20 air-conditioned trains for Cairo metro Line 1, at a total cost of 2.3 billion pounds. |
