Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi visited the premises of the US Chamber of Commerce in Washington where he had a meeting with President and CEO Thomas J. Donohue and President and CEO of the Egypt-US Business Council John Christmann along with heads and directors of 12 major US companies.
The president expressed appreciation of the role played by the chamber and the council in supporting economic and trade relations between Egypt and the United States, Presidency Spokesman Alaa Youssef said. The president expressed keenness on meeting regularly with members of the chamber in Cairo and during his visits to the US to brief them on the latest developments in Egypt particularly on the economic arena and the positive changes witnessed in the country within the framework of the economic reform measures taken by the government, he said. The president referred to the fruitful talks he held with US President Donald Trump which are considered a breakthrough in strategic relations between the two countries, he added. President Sisi asserted the importance of economic relations and Egypt's wish to enhance them in the near future, referring to the important role played by the private sector in this respect through increasing investments, exchanging information and expertise and boosting trade, he said. Donahue welcomed the president's visit to the chamber's headquarters, asserting that his first visit to Washington reflects a new breakthrough in relations between Egypt and the United States, he added. He expressed appreciation of Egypt's keenness to maintain trade relations and economic cooperation with the United States over the past years, the spokesman added. The president reviewed the progress reached in economic reform and the implementation of measures to improve the investment atmosphere in Egypt, he added. The meeting included an open dialogue with heads of major US companies who showed interest in operating in Egypt and expanding their standing projects. The ministers of finance, investment, international cooperation and trade and industry answered their questions and discussed investment plans in Egypt and suggestions for cooperation a number of fields, he said The president asserted Egypt's keenness on constant communication with investors to get acquainted with their problems and tackle obstacles facing them. The president held a meeting with Executive Vice President of the Boeing Company and President and Chief Executive Officer of Defense, Space and Security (BDS) Leanne Caret. They tackled ways to enhance cooperation with the company in a number of sectors. The president attended a dinner banquet hosted by the chamber in his honor, he said. |
