Investment and international Cooperation Minister Sahar Nasr and Director General for Neighborhood and Enlargement Negotiations of the European Commission Christian Danielsson signed a Euro 10-million grant to promote women's right in Egypt.
The grant aims at contributing to the implementation of the national plan to combat FGM and empower families, Nasr said, expressing happiness over the grant. Welcoming EU official Danielsson, Nasr hailed the key role of the EU as a main and active partner of Egypt. She added that grant underscores the strong relations binding Egypt and the EU. Danielsson, for his part, said that gender equality tops the priorities of the EU and its cooperation with Egypt, especially in the year of Egyptian woman. Bolstering the participation of woman in the manpower reflects on contributions to the economic development of the country, the EU official added. The EU-endorsed program, "Promoting Women's Rights in Egypt", aims at protecting and improving the rights of women in addition to boost their role in the community and achieving development, Danielsson noted. The total funds and grants of the EU member states to Egypt stand at Euro 11 billion, Danielsson pointed out, adding that through cooperation with Egypt terrorism can be defeated. |
