 Finance Minister Amr el-Garhy said a fresh statement issued by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) hailed great efforts made by the government and Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) to reform the economy.
An IMF team led by Chis Jarvis visited Cairo from April 30 to May 11, 2017, to discuss policy priorities of the first review for Egypt's economic reform program supported by a three-year IMF Extended Fund Facility (EFF). An End-of-Mission press release said the Egyptian authorities' economic reform process is off to a good start. It added that the liberalization of the exchange rate, as well as the introduction of the Value Added Tax (VAT) and energy subsidy reform will strengthen the fiscal position and have positive significant effects. |
