A delegation from the UAE, chaired by Brigadier Ghaith Hassan Al Zaabi, Director-General of Traffic Coordination at the Ministry of Interior, has participated in the World Congress of the International Road Safety Organisation, PRI, that was held recently in Tunisia under the slogan, "Road Governance and Its Impact on Road Safety: Bets and Challenges"
. The Congress, held under the patronage of Beji Caid Essebsi, President of Tunisia, and with the cooperation of the International Road Safety Organisation, PRI, and the General Secretariat of the Council of Arab Ministers of Interiors, aims to raise the level of traffic safety, reduce human casualties in road accidents, exchange experiences and information between countries on awareness, discuss ways of communication, and diagnose the main reasons for traffic accidents to find solutions. . The conference witnessed the participation of a wide range of specialists and experts from all over the world and issued the Tunisia Declaration 2017, an update on the Brasilia Declaration 2015, which stresses the importance of joint action to reduce traffic accidents and the resulting deaths, the development of traffic strategies and the exchange of successful major international experience concerning prevention. . The declaration highlighted the growing threats facing road users in developing countries despite exerted efforts to enhance the traffic environment in these countries. . It also stressed the necessity of issuing and amending traffic legislations with regards to safety, which aims to facilitate traffic flow and secure road users. . The congress underscored the importance of establishing teams to review the road safety systems, ensure compliance with international standards and develop accurate, specialised and comprehensive database to share with participating countries, as well as to integrate traffic programmes in sustainable development plans with an emphasis on training programmes related to accident plans and awareness campaigns, especially regarding protecting children from traffic accidents risks. . The speakers of the congress highlighted accident prevention programmes and how to raise the level of traffic safety in co-operation with decision makers, as well as to strengthen community responsibility and the development of partnerships with the private and public sectors. . The congress decided on a comprehensive concept for major traffic solutions, ways of using advanced technologies and applications and how to benefit from them in traffic control, as well as for overall awareness and recent developments in the technical inspection of vehicles and its role in reducing accidents. . The UAE delegation from the Ministry of Interior included Colonel Ali Saeed Al Alkeem, Director of the Traffic and Patrol Department at Ras al-Khaimah Police, and Col. Saeed Obaid bin Aran, Director of the Traffic and Patrol Department of Umm Al Qaiwain Police. |
