Sherif Ismail Says Egypt Keen on Boosting Cooperation with Partners to Enhance Economy

Prime Minister Sherif Ismail said Egypt is keen on boosting cooperation with its partners to achieve the economic growth goals and meet the requirements of sustainable development plans.

Meeting a delegation of General Electric (GE), under Vice Chairman John Rice, Ismail expressed Egypt's aspiration to attract more US investments during the coming stage.

The government is currently working with its partners to implement a number of important projects, especially in the field of transport and communications, which ranks among the priorities of the government's agenda, the premier said.

He affirmed the importance of developing road networks and raising the efficiency of means of transport to improve the movement of internal trade, serving development projects, making life of citizens easier and activating many new urban communities for attracting more people to relieve pressure in the Valley and Delta area.

For their part, members of the GE delegation said Egypt is a strategic partner to the company in the Middle East for more than 40 years.

They added that the company looks forward to expanding its activities in the Egyptian market during the coming period and pumping new investments.

Earlier in the day, a $575 million agreement was signed between the Egyptian National Railways (ENR) and General Electric.

The agreement covers the supply of 100 multi-use locomotives for passenger and freight, and a long-term maintenance of 15 years to provide spare parts and technical support for the new locomotives, as well as 81 other trains of the ENR fleet.

It also includes the implementation of a training program for more than 275 Egyptian engineers and technicians.
