 Minister of Trade and Industry Tareq Qabil discussed with Greek Ambassador to Egypt Michael-Christos Diamessis means of fostering economic relations, boosting trade exchange and increasing joint investments between Cairo and Athens in the coming period.
The meeting also touched on preparations for Qabil’s participation in the 2nd EU-Arab World Summit, to be held in Greece on November 9-10 under the theme “Towards a Solid Alliance,” the Ministry of Trade and Industry said statement. The summit will tackle the future of Arab-European cooperation on politics, economy, investments, energy, infrastructure, tourism and trade, the minister said, adding that the event will also deal with means of bolstering relations between the two sides. Meanwhile, Qabil said trade exchange between Egypt and Greece registered €894.5 million during January-September 2017, up from €869.6 million in the same period a year earlier. The minister also revealed that Egypt’s non-petroleum exports to Greece surged 39 percent year-on-year in January-September this year, recording €136.6 million, compared to €98.3 million last year. As for the Greek investments in Egypt, Qabil said they are estimated at $155 million allocated for 160 projects. |
