Minister of Trade and Industry Tarek Qabil disclosed a sizable increase in Egypt's non-petroleum exports to US markets from January through November 2017, reaching around dlrs 1.346 billion, compared with dlrs 1.145 billion during the same period in 2016.
Non-petroleum exports represent around 90% of Egypt's total exports to the United States, the minister said, commenting on a report he received from the Egyptian trade bureau in Washington on development in Egypt's exports to the United States from January till November 2017 . Qabil referred to coordination between the Egyptian and American sides to enhance economic and trade cooperation in the various fields to serve the Egyptian and American economies and iron out all obstacles that may face trade movement between the two countries . Talks are going on to reach a Trade and Investment Framework Agreement (TIFA) between Egypt and the United States which is a key tool for eliminating all obstacles hindering trade between the two sides, he said . Ahmed Antar, the ministry's first undersecretary and head of the Egyptian Trade Representation Authority, said such increase in Egyptian export figures to the US is due to intensive efforts by the authority in Washington to facilitate the entry of Egyptian commodities into such huge market and to make best use of trade agreements signed between the two sides . Egypt's main exports to the US over the first 11 months of last year included textiles and ready-to-wear garments worth dlrs 832 million, iron and steel worth dlrs 95.5 million, fertilizers worth dlrs 79.4 million, salt and sulfur worth dlrs 34.6 million, cardboard paper worth dlrs 30.4 million . |
