Revolta Egypt aims to set up 65 electric vehicle charging stations in seven governorates in the first phase of the project.

Minister of Trade and Industry Tarek Kabil witnessed the inauguration of the country’s first electric vehicle charging network, established by “Revolta Egypt”, an EV charging infrastructure developer and service provider, in cooperation with the National Company for Petroleum Services (Wattannia).

The new unit opened is installed at the state-owned Wattannia gas station on the Cairo-Suez highway, and is considered a step towards building the first electric vehicle infrastructure in Egypt.

“The ministry is keen to introduce state-of-the-art technologies into the national industry, particularly car manufacturing, in the hope to fulfill the aspirations of Egyptian customers,” Kabil said.

Electric cars, he stressed, have the edge over traditional ones, being low-cost and eco-friendly, especially amid a rising global trend towards replacing fuel vehicles with battery-powered ones in an attempt to reduce GHGs emissions and combat climate change.

“Revolta has spent two years of researches and studies and more than 20,000 Km of tests on Egypt’s roads using electric cars to ensure superior service quality,” CEO and Founder Mohamed Badawi said, adding that the company aims to set up 65 EV charging stations in seven governorates in the first phase of the project.

The grand opening was attended by Gen. Mahmoud Arafat, head of Wattania, along with representatives from the transportation ministry, the Center for Environment and Development for the Arab Region and Europe (CEDARE), the Green Climate Fund (GCF) and other international institutions concerned
