 Minister of Electricity Mohamed Shaker said Egypt aims at extending its successful expertise in the field of energy to Iraq.
In statements to MENA on the fringe of the International Conference on the Reconstruction of Iraq, currently in session here, Shaker said Egypt's participation in the conference by a delegation led by Presidential Assistant for National and Strategic Projects Ibrahim Mahlab aims at carrying Egypt's successful expertise in the field of energy to Iraq and enable it rebuild its power networks in the governorates damaged by Daesh terrorist group. On Egypt's achievements in the energy sector, Shaker said Egypt has successfully added 3,600 megawatts to its national grid in eight months, a record time that has not been expected even by the foreign companies operating in the development works. Egypt had suffered from seriously recurrent power outages in the mid-2014, Shaker said, noting that the situation now is totally different and the country's energy networks are operating normally. He also pointed out to the operation of the nuclear power station of Daba in early 2019 following the accomplishment of its designs and their approval. He said Egypt signed four contracts with the Russian side concerning Daba nuclear power station. The first contract is pertaining to the design and construction, the second is relevant to providing the station with fuel for a period of 60 to 80 years, the third on the management of the depleted fuel and the fourth is related to the technical services during a 10-year operation period. The construction contract is currently being prepared as the engineering drawings have been finalized and will be referred to the monitoring bodies to be approved, the minister added. He also said that the setting up of the first nuclear reactor will be finished by 2026 and the fourth and final reactor will be up and running by 2029, considering such work as an international achievement that has never been done before worldwide. |
