Japanese ambassador to Egypt Takehiro Kagawa and his accompanying delegation representing the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) visited Borg El-Arab airport to inspect the new passenger terminal, a statement by Egypt's Civil Aviation Ministry reads.
The new environmentally-friendly, 34-thousand square-foot terminal will expand airport services and traveller capacity, and is being constructed in cooperation with JICA, a Japanese governmental agency that "provides technical cooperation and other forms of aid promoting economic and social development" to advance international development, according to its website. The new terminal will serve nearly four million passengers a year and will increase the airport's total capacity to six million annual passengers by 2030. The terminal project also includes establishing a new tarmac that can accomodate 20 new planes. A new 1,000-car parking area is also part of the development plan, as well as a service court, shops for passengers, sanitation and electricity stations. JICA is conducting several development projects in Egypt, including the construction of the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM). Japan is also involved in other projects in Egypt in the fields of education, electricity and transportation. |
