The Egyptian delegation in New York held a high-level meeting of the Group of 77 and China under the theme "Economic Empowerment and Financial Inclusion of Women, Especially Rural Women: Lessons from the South," as part of Egypt's launch of its economic empowerment and financial inclusion for women in the United Nations system.
The Permanent Representative of Egypt to the United Nations, Ambassador Mohamed Idris said that Egypt called for this meeting within its chairmanship of the group of 77 and China. The meeting was attended by a number of relevant UN top officials and delegations of 134 member-states participating in the work of the commission on the status of women. Idris explained that the meeting stressed the sustainable development cannot be achieved without realizing the economic empowerment and financial inclusion of women, especially in developing countries. He underlined that the aim of the meeting is to exchange expertise and national experiences of the countries of the group, focusing on how to overcome the challenges facing these countries in achieving economic empowerment of women. |
