An Egyptian top-delegation arrived on in Khartoum to take part in a nine-party meeting on the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD).
The Egyptian delegation, grouped Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry, Irrigation Minister Mohamed Abdel Ati, and acting intelligence chief Abbas Kamel. Upon arrival, the Egyptian officials were received by their Sudanese counterparts, and Egypt’s embassy staff in Sudan. The meeting comes in light of the agreement clinched during a summit between the leaders of Egypt, Sudan and Ethiopia in Addis Ababa in January on the sidelines of African Union Summit, which aimed at overcoming any obstacles facing the tripartite technical committee. The main hurdle remains in endorsing the initial report, made by the technical bureau, to speed up the procedures of approving a study on the repercussions of GERD on the Nile downstream states; Egypt and Sudan. |
