The Agriculture Ministry has exported a new batch of Egyptian Arabian horses as part of an agreement with the European Union on the resumption of Egyptian exports of this breed of horses valued for their beauty, intelligence, stamina and gentleness in accordance to several requirements set by the European side.
The move comes after the EU lifted a ban on Egyptian horse imports that has been in place since 2011. The ministry said in a statement that two Arabian horses were exported to Belgium as part of a fresh batch of Egypt’s exports of Arab horses to the EU. Agriculture Minister Abdel Men'em el Banna said that the exporting process was carried out in line with the EU requirements, a step that followed the recent health and quarantine procedures taken by Egypt with the aim of resuming the export of these horses to the EU market. The total number of horses exported to the EU member states since the EU lifted the ban on Egyptian horse imports hit 31, the minister added. The ministry has adopted several measures to promote Egypt’s exports of horses, Banna said, noting that a guide book for regulating the process has already been issued. The EU's approval of ending the ban on importing horses from Egypt, was conditional on establishing an equine diseases free-zone, Banna said pointing out that the veterinary quarantine office of the Egyptian Military Veterinary hospital is the party in charge of overseeing the application of all measures that meets the EU requirements. |
