The Higher Legislative Committee for Financial and Banking Services has presented a range of banking developments in the UAE, reviewed certain standards related to Islamic financial institutions to be issued by the UAE Central Bank, along with other agenda items during its second meeting in 2018.
Chaired by Sheikh Dr. Ahmad bin Abdulaziz Al Haddad, Chairman of the Higher Sharia Authority, meeting attendees listened to a presentation conducted by the Dubai Centre for Islamic Economy Development on its strategy to support the Islamic economy. The Committee members praised the centre’s efforts and highlighted the integration of the centre’s vision and initiatives to those of the UAE, to develop the Islamic economy and make the country its financial centre. Due to its position and in light of the challenges faced by the Islamic financial services industry, the committee adopted a strategic plan for 2018-2022, as well as a clear annual plan that addresses these challenges, to achieve its set objectives that are in line with the country’s directives. |
