Jordan and Russia agreed to hold a meeting for the joint ministerial committee for development, technical, scientific and economic cooperation later this year, and work on the possibility of organizing a public-private business forum.,
The agreement was reached during meetings of the Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Imad Fakhoury with Russian officials on the sidelines of the Saint Petersburg International Economic Forum organized by Russia for the 22nd. The forum concluded yesterday with the participation of 15,000 figures, notably Russian President Vladimir Putin, French President Emmanuel Macron, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, and IMF President Christine Lagarde. Fakhoury highlighted the importance of the Jordanian-Russian ministerial committee as a platform for constructive discussions and understanding on issues related to development and economic, investment, tourism and technical cooperation between the two countries. According to the statement, the minister discussed with Russian officials the possibility of building on a memorandum of understanding signed by the two sides last year to establish economic relations with the countries of the Eurasian Union established by Russia and included Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan. During the meetings, Fakhoury stressed the importance of preparing for the transfer of the Jordanian-Russian memorandum of understanding to a free trade agreement. The two sides discussed the requirements of technical cooperation and the importance of holding a business forum among interested companies from the countries of the union with Jordanian companies. Fakhoury stressed the importance of the meetings he held on the sidelines of the forum with senior Russian officials. He said that the meetings came to follow up on the ongoing talks and meetings between the leaderships of the two friendly countries in order to develop bilateral relations between the two countries through establishing a strategic partnership for bilateral cooperation in fields of mutual interest. The planning minister stressed the importance of the strategic partnership led by His Majesty King Abdullah II between the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and the Russian Federation. Fakhoury signed with his Russian counterpart in 2016 protocol of the third meeting of the Joint Ministerial Committee between the Jordan and the Russian Federation. |
