Minister of Housing Dr Mostafa Madbouli and Minister of Investment Dr Sahar Nasr signed 4/6/2018 a cooperation protocol with World Bank (WB) officials on the second phase of the national program on sanitation in villages.
The project, whose costs amount to dlrs 600 million, is funded by the bank as announced during a press conference held at the Ministry of Housing headquarters in the presence of the ministries' leaderships. Madbouli and Nasr witnessed the signing in initials of the agreement on the second phase of the national program for sanitation in villages across the country, worth dlrs 600 million. The second phase aims to extend sanitary drainage services to villages in three governorates, namely Damietta, Gharbiya and Menoufiya and extend integrated sanitation services to 178,000 households to serve around 900,000 people. The first phase of the program is currently being implemented in Daqahliya, Sharqiya and Beheira and has achieved great success in terms of its timetable, he said, asserting that President Abdel Fattah El Sisi is highly concerned with this project. The way this project is being implemented - Program for Results - is a unique model in Egypt as funding is linked with specific results, he said, adding that it aims to develop the institutional system of the water and sanitation sector to achieve sustainable management of sanitary drainage, as water and sanitation companies implement the projects in the governorates concerned. Nasr said the success of negotiations with the bank to fund the second phase of the project depended mainly on the success of the first phase and the great achievement in implementing national projects, mainly utilities and social housing projects. |
