Egypt’s finance ministry dispensed EGP 1.5 billion for the national project to install energy-saving bulbs on street lamposts, the ministry announced .
"The project to upgrade the street lighting system comes as part of government plans to reduce public expenditure and energy consumption, while providing proper lighting in the streets," said the ministry. The EGP 1.5 billion will finance a three-phase project to update the bulbs in street lampposts to an energy-saving LED model, as the ministry’s statement describes. The first phase of the project has already been completed, and the second phase is near completion, the ministry said. The project is a joint effort between the Ministry of Local Development, the Ministry of Electricity, and the Arab Authority for Industrialization, and is being carried out according to a specific timeline and with full government funding. Egypt has 2.5 million lampposts and 64,000 meters used to measure the level of energy used in street-lighting. |
