Minister of Trade and Industry Amr Nassar met with Sweden’s Ambassador in Cairo Jan Thesleff, leading a business delegation including heads of top Swedish firms investing in Egypt.
The meeting discussed means of enhancing mutual cooperation between the two countries, namely in trade, industry and SMEs; and the status of Swedish projects operating in the local market. “We seek to boost Egyptian exports to Sweden and bring down the country’s trade deficit with the EU nation,” Nassar stressed. He also encouraged Swedish companies to benefit from the major investment opportunities in the Suez Canal Axis project. Thesleff emphasized that his country is planning to double trade volumes with Egypt over the next five years, copying a success story with Saudi Arabia. According to official data, Egypt-Sweden trade reached $541 million in the first eight months of the year, whereas Swedish investments in Egypt amounted to $133.5 million in 121 projects in the fields of manufacturing, communications, IT, finance, construction, services, tourism and agriculture. |
