Sharjah Chamber Organises UAE-Uganda Trade Forum in Kampala

The Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry, SCCI, which was represented by the Sharjah Exports Development Centre has organised the UAE-Uganda Trade and Investment Forum in Kampala.

The forum is part of the activities of the chamber’s 4th trade mission to East Africa. The forum was organised by the chamber, in cooperation with Ugandan Investment Authority, the Private Sector Foundation Uganda, and the Uganda National Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The trade mission, which was headed by Abdullah Sultan Al Owais, Chairman of the Sharjah's Chamber, strengthened its network of relations with the Ugandan business community, where bilateral meetings were held between members of the trade delegation and their Ugandan counterparts. The event included the participation of 30 Emirati companies that operate in various manufacturing and industrial sectors such as iron, steel, food, power solutions and electronic devices, among others. The forum was held with the aim of developing trade relations in Uganda and reviewing investment opportunities available in both countries.

Speaking at the forum, Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda, Prime Minister of Uganda, said that his country is proud of its strong relations with the UAE, and that it is keen to develop these relations in all fields. He expressed his hope that the trade mission will help to drive economic development, enhance the volume of investment between both countries private sectors, and raise the rates of mutual trade exchange.

Dr. Rugunda lauded Sharjah's Chamber efforts especially during the last four years, to strengthen economic, trade and investment relations with his country by organising trade missions. He stated that Uganda welcomes Emirati investors and businesspeople, and that his country is keen to provide support, incentives and facilities that serve the interests of both sides.

In turn, Al Owais said that the chamber is keen to boost ties between Uganda and the UAE in general, and between Uganda and the Emirate of Sharjah in particular, in order to contribute in raising the rates of trade exchange and to establish new and promising investment partnerships between the friendly countries.

Al Owais highlighted some of Sharjah’s competitive advantages such as the diversity of its economy, its modern infrastructure, and its flexible legislation among other attractive features.

He called on the Ugandan business community to invest in Sharjah, and to benefit from the volume of support and facilities that the Sharjah Chamber offers to foreign investors.

The event was attended by Abdulrahim Obeid Al-Falahi, Charge d'Affaires at the UAE Embassy in Kampala; Matia Kasaija, Uganda's Minister of Finance, Planning and Economic Development; in addition to senior officials from the Ugandan government, a number of representatives from the Ugandan business community, as well as Sharjah Chamber's board members, and businessmen.
