Minister of Trade and Industry Amr Nassar took part in a panel discussion entitled "Export-led Growth and Managing State-owned Assets," on the sidelines of the third Annual MENA Investor Conference, organized in Cairo by CI Capital, a leading Egyptian diversified financial services group.
This year's edition is held under the theme "Seizing Investment Opportunities" and tackles the results of financial reforms undertaken by several governments, as well as the most important investment opportunities in the MENA region. It sheds the light on efforts to enhance such growth opportunities, creating a channel for local, regional and global investors. Addressing an audience of investors and senior government officials, Nassar said that the ministry has adopted an ambitious plan to open new markets for Egyptian products, while focusing on highly competitive sectors especially in labor-intensive and processing industries. He added that there are three main markets being targeted during this period, including those in Africa, Middle Asia and East Europe, noting that the ministry already covers 50% of shipment costs to Africa and plans to set up more logistics centers across the continent. He further noted that the ministry is currently undertaking comprehensive programs to upgrade the manufacturing sector, which includes constructing more industrial parks all over the country. "Recently, we have launched the National Industrial Localization Program (NILP), aiming to increase the percentage of local components used in manufacturing," he emphasized. Other participants in the panel included: Minister of Planning and Administrative Reform Hala al-Seed, Minister of Tourism Rania al-Mashat, Minister of Public Enterprise Sector Hisham Tawfiq and Executive Chairman of the Egyptian Exchange Mohamed Farid. |
