Minister of Information and communications technology Amr Talaat met with Orange Chief Executive and Chairman Stephane Richard.
The meeting mulled increase the size of the worldwide mobile operator's investments in Egypt and its future business plans in the country. The two sides agreed to boost cooperation in a number of areas, including expansion of Orange's outsourcing business aiming to creating new job opportunities, honing skills of young cadres in customer service centers, alongside providing training programs for young developers on the latest applications, ICT programs and technological innovation, the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) said in a statement following the meeting. The minister described Orange as a main partner in the Egyptian telecommunications sector. The meeting reviewed investment opportunities in the Egyptian ICT sector and the most important projects implemented by the ministry in cooperation with other state bodies to achieve the transformation to the digital society. For his part, Richard revealed that Orange plans to expand its operations in Upper Egypt through opening a communications center in Assiut Technology Park, which is expected to provide many job opportunities there. Earlier in the day, a three-year joint cooperation agreement was signed between the Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA) and Orange Egypt to provide training for 1,000 young people and employ 60 percent of trainees annually. The agreement stipulates that Orange is to train 50 developers annually under Orange Lab summer internship program. This training is accredited by Orange and entails a number of the latest ICT applications and programs, including smart cities, cyber security, block chain and others. The agreement included the launch of Fab Lab, a digital manufacturing lab in New Beni Suef Technology Park by Orange as a coming phase of its future expansion plan in Upper Egypt.
