The Ministry of Economy, represented by the Intellectual Property and Entrepreneurship Division, organised a workshop, titled, "Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises, SME: Effective Intellectual Property for Assets Management," in cooperation with the World Intellectual Property Organisation, WIPO, at the Dubai Internet City, with the participation of the National Programme for SMEs and the Dubai Design and Fashion Council, DDFC.
In a press statement issued today, the ministry stressed that it organised the workshop as part of its support for SMEs while highlighting the importance of intellectual property, in light of the country’s move towards a knowledge-based economy, and stressing that the theme of the workshop was carefully chosen, along with its ten topics. The two-day workshop saw discussions around ten topics, which were the role of trademarks and industrial designs in enhancing the competitiveness of SMEs, the role of patents and utility models in taking advantage of the market’s technical innovation, developing a programme to protect the trade secrets of SMEs, an introduction to employment rights in SMEs, formulating business strategies through competitive intelligence, the strategic use of intellectual property information, collective marketing, adding value through geographical indications, certification marks and collective marks, benefitting from intellectual property assets, and an overview of licensing, commercial excellence and promotion. The workshop was attended by several entrepreneurs, SME owners and registered designers at the DDFC. |
