President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) Suma Chakrabarti said the bank’s investments in Egypt total €4.8 billion through 91 projects.
The EBRD injected investments worth €2.2 billion in Egypt, representing the bank’s biggest investments in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region over the past two years, Chakrabarti said during his meeting with Egyptian Minister of Investment and International Cooperation Sahar Nasr. The meeting was held on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum on the Middle East and North Africa, currently held at the Dead Sea in Jordan, the Ministry of Investment and International Cooperation said in a statement . The two sides discussed the possibility of boosting the EBRD’s investments in the infrastructure field in Egypt and Africa, given that Egypt is currently the largest country of EBRD’s operations. Earlier in the day, Nasr took part in the opening session of the World Economic Forum, which was inaugurated by Jordanian King Abdullah II, in the presence of some 1,000 heads of government, chairpersons of companies and representatives of civil society from 50 countries. |
