Egypt is committed to strengthening cooperation with the UN Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) as a strategic partner, Minister of Trade and Industry Amr Nassar said .
In a statement released by his ministry, Nassar further stressed that the organization plays a pivotal role, through its development projects and programs, in executing Egypt’s sustainable industrial development strategy. The minister made his remarks during a meeting with the UNIDO’s Director General Li Yong to discuss the latest developments after enlisting Egypt in the organization’s Program for Country Partnership (PCP). Held on the fringe of UNIDO’s International Economic Forum 2019 in St. Petersburg in Russia, the meeting took up the outcome of the a fruitful meeting between Li and President Abdel Fattah El Sisi in Cairo in 2018, during which the enlisting of Egypt in the organizations’ Program for Country Partnership was announced, Nassar said. For his part, Li asserted the organization’s commitment to boosting mutual cooperation at various levels, highlighting UNIDO’s support of Egypt’s sustainable development efforts by promoting inclusive industrialization. The PCP is UNIDO’s innovative model for accelerating inclusive and sustainable industrial development in Member States. Aligned with the national development agenda and focused on sectors with high growth potential, the program supports a country in achieving its industrial development goals. |
