The Senate Finance and Economic Committee, chaired by Umayya Toukan, discussed the latest developments on the Kingdom's economic situation and the financial reform program.
Deputy Prime Minister Rajai Al-Muasher and Minister of Finance Izzeddin Kanakrieh were also in attendance of the meeting. Al-Muasher reviewed top government procedures on the budgetary policy and economic growth, affirming that the government is moving ahead with various "disciplinary procedures," and stimulating economic growth. There are several challenges facing "budgetary discipline" and projected revenues, in cases related to medical treatments, exemptions, and evasion of payment obligations to the Treasury, Al-Muasher pointed out. The government is currently working on addressing these issues, he added. Addressing the committee, Kanakrieh noted the change in consumption patterns around the world as a result of the development of technology, mainly e-commerce, adding the government is working on outlining a framework in this regard. |
