The World Bank Group Resident Representative in Kuwait Ghassan Khoja said Monday that Kuwait has taken firm steps to integrate the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in its national planning and development framework. Khoja valued, in a statement to KUNA, the efforts exerted by the Ministry of State for Economic Affairs and the Supreme Council for Planning and Development in preparing the Kuwait Voluntary National Review 2019, a report on the implementation of the 2030 Agenda to the UN High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development.
The World Bank Group commends Kuwait's focus on making and implementing solid and balanced social, economic, and environmental policies, he expressed. Kuwait has worked on implementing measures to attain SDGs, Khoja said, noting the Kuwait Voluntary National Review represents significant steps toward evaluating the assessing progress to attain such goals, and shows the Kuwaiti leadership's determination to achieve fair and comprehensive sustainable socio-economic development. Meanwhile, Khoja mentioned there are current challenges that could hinder some reformations, indicating the World Bank, through its strategic partnership with Kuwait, constantly aspires to support attaining His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah's vision (New Kuwait) by 2035. Kuwait has taken part at a UN High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) on July 18, themed "empowering people and ensuring integration and equality", and presented its first voluntary report on objectives of sustainable development at the national level. |
