The Arab League on Wednesday proposed setting up a "roadmap to broad development" across the region that ensures stability on the economic front well into the foreseeable future.
The remarks by the head of the bloc's social affairs department and assistant secretary general Hayfa Abughazala came amid a meeting of the Arab League's social and economic council. She suggested assembling a team to assess economic conditions throughout the wider Arab region, a step the official said was necessary given the enormous challenges thrust upon many Arab states. "The critical juncture that we have reached poses a tremendous challenge that behooves us to cooperate and achieve common objectives," she emphasized. On what matters the talks will cover, the Arab League official said the focus is on economic and social issues, ahead of a forthcoming Arab summit slated for March |
