Egypt, the world’s largest wheat buyer, has extended its imported wheat moisture limit specifications of 13.5 percent until April 2021, the trade ministry said .
Ashraf Afifi, chairman of the Egyptian Organisation for Standardisation and Quality, said the decision was based on a request by the supply and internal trade minister to extend the deadline for wheat limit specifications. The request came after the supply ministry reviewed the country's supply of the strategic commodity to ensure its availability to consumers with the requisite quality. The organisation sets the wheat moisture limit at no more than 15.5 percent, with CODEX setting the percentage at 14.5 percent. Codex Alimentarius determines the moisture limit for each state depending on countries' climate. |
