The International Monetary Fund (IMF) said on Wednesday it plans to offer Lebanon advice and technical expertise on challenges affecting the country's economy.
The announcement comes after the global lender received a request from the Lebanese government for the endeavour, read an IMF statement. "We stand ready to assist the (Lebanese) authorities. As part of its mandate, the IMF provides advice to its member countries on policies and reforms to restore macro-stability and promote growth," spokesman Gerry Rice said. He added, however, that "any decisions on debt are the authorities', to be made in consultation with their own legal and financial advisors." |
