International Cooperation Minister Rania Mashat underlined that the success of the Egyptian-Iraqi higher committee meetings opened a new chapter of bilateral ties where the great potentials of the Egyptian and Iraqi economies will be exploited.
The two sides signed 15 cooperation agreements in various domains at the end of the meetings of the committee which convened for the first time since 30 years. The committee meetings were attended by Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli and his accompanying delegation which comprised the ministers of electricity, petroleum, international cooperation, manpower, health, housing, transport, civil aviation and trade alongside a number of high-ranking officials and businessmen. The ministry has worked hard over the past months to arrange the committee meetings in line with the recommendations of the trilateral presidential summit of Egypt, Iraq and Jordan. The presidential summits has pinpointed a number of key projects which were tackled by the joint committee in order to realize economic development. The projects included the power linkage project between Egypt and Iraq via Jordan, extending the Iraqi oil pipeline to Egypt via Aqaba road in three stages and establishing a petrochemical factory. The projects also included Egyptian companies' contribution to the reconstruction of Iraq, she said, stressing preparedness of the Egyptian companies to take part in these projects. Minister of International Cooperation Rania Mashat stressed the ministry will follow up the implementation of the agreements signed between the two sides as well as the recommendations issued by the committee. She accentuated that Egypt adopts an ambitious plan for realizing sustainable and comprehensive development, noting that Egypt became capable of confronting economic, social and political challenges. She attributed this achievement to the implementation of the economic reform program, noting that needed legislative, financial and structural measures were taken to create an investment attractive climate. She added that Egypt is one of the world countries with the highest investment revenues. |
